About the magazine

Decolonial Passage Literary Magazine was founded to create a dedicated space for writing that engages with the legacies of colonialism, migration, and diaspora. Its mission is to publish poetry, fiction, and essays that challenge dominant narratives and center voices historically marginalized in literary spaces. The magazine operates with a clear anti-colonial and anti-racist ethos, seeking work that is both politically urgent and artistically rigorous. Rather than treating decoloniality as a thematic label, the journal approaches it as a lens for rethinking form, language, and the politics of publication itself.

Editorial focus

Decolonial Passage welcomes writing from all writers engaged in the decolonial project, regardless of the writer’s race, origin, gender, disability, or geographical location. Simultaneously, Decolonial Passage centers African, African American, and Black Diaspora writing from the African continent, the Americas, Europe, and beyond.

Before submitting, read several past issues to understand the magazine's editorial focus and aesthetic range. They prioritize work that engages with decolonial themes, but avoid mere slogan or trauma narrative; craft and complexity matter. Follow their submission guidelines closely, including formatting and simultaneous submission policies. Response times can vary, so patience is advised. If rejected, consider that the volume of submissions is high and that fit is often a matter of thematic alignment rather than quality alone.

Please read some of the writing we have published to get a sense of the journal. For poetry, writers may submit up to three poems during the months of January, April, July, and October.
