About the magazine

BoomerLitMag is an online literary magazine founded in 2015 with the aim of publishing work that engages with the complexities of the baby boomer generation and its legacy. The magazine was established by a group of writers and editors who felt that the literary landscape often overlooked the nuanced perspectives of those born between 1946 and 1964, and sought to create a dedicated space for their voices. Over time, BoomerLitMag has expanded its scope to include work from writers of all ages, provided it resonates with the themes of memory, history, and the passage of time that define the boomer experience. The magazine publishes poetry, fiction, and nonfiction on a rolling basis, with a particular interest in work that is reflective, well-crafted, and unafraid of sentiment or complexity.

Editorial focus

BoomerLitMag, an online quarterly magazine, has a home base in the Boomer generation but presents high quality and accessible writing from any writer on any theme. They’ve published college writers as well as internationally known writers such as Marge Piercy.

Writers should familiarize themselves with the magazine's aesthetic by reading several issues before submitting. BoomerLitMag favors work that is accessible, emotionally resonant, and technically proficient. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify the editors promptly if your work is accepted elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter with your submission, and be patient: response times can be slow due to the volunteer nature of the editorial team. The magazine accepts submissions via email or its online portal, and guidelines are updated regularly on its website.

We like smart, nuanced, accessible writing with concrete images and strong characters. We don’t publish highly abstract works or nostalgia pieces. To get a sense of what we mean by that, please check out a recent issue or two. We ask for three to seven pages of poetry or under 20 pages of prose and only one submission every six months.
