About the magazine

Kweli Journal is a literary magazine founded in 2009 with the mission to celebrate and publish emerging and established writers of color. Rooted in the belief that diverse voices are essential to the literary landscape, Kweli provides a platform for poetry, fiction, and nonfiction that reflects a wide range of experiences within the global diaspora. The journal has become a vital space for writers who have been historically underrepresented in mainstream publishing, offering both a digital and print presence that champions literary excellence and cultural authenticity.

Editorial focus

Kweli is a quarterly literary publication that celebrates cultural kinships and the role of the literary imagination. It seeks literature and poems “full of vitamins,” that sing the truth. High-quality literary work that is beautiful, sustaining, and profound. Kweli‘s mission is to nurture emerging writers of color and create opportunities for their voices to be recognized and valued.
