Editorial focus
Maudlin House is a new kind of publishing house for the twenty-first century. They want to challenge your perspectives, help you find your inner poet, expand your empathy, and take you to places you’ve never been. They’re devoted to publishing new forms of writing for new readers, and their commitment is fixed on highlighting where mainstream literature, pop culture, and experimental writing meet.
Submitting your work
Maudlin House accepts submissions for both its online magazine and its book catalog. For the magazine, they seek flash fiction, poetry, and hybrid work that is concise and emotionally charged; reading periods are announced on their website and social media. For book submissions, they prefer completed manuscripts that fit their aesthetic of the weird and heartfelt. Always read their submission guidelines carefully, as they may have specific word limits or thematic calls. Simultaneous submissions are generally accepted, but notify them immediately if your work is placed elsewhere. Response times can vary, so patience is advised. They value writing that takes risks and avoids cliché, so send your most honest, unguarded work.
We encourage you to write weird. Life’s too short not to. Belong to where you don’t belong. Stay up all night and drip fever sweat poetry. Create flash fiction from Yelp pages. Write prose from Facebook. And always push the limit of what literature is and could be.
