Editorial focus
Pictura Journal seeks work that offers a vivid snapshot of its creator’s world — work that complicates the mundane through concrete images and language grounded in a strong sense of place.
Submitting your work
Before submitting, read several recent issues to understand the journal's range and standards. Poems should engage with a specific artwork, artist, or visual phenomenon in a way that goes beyond surface description; the best submissions reveal something new about both the poem's subject and the possibilities of language. Simultaneous submissions are typically accepted, but notify the editors promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter that identifies the visual source or impetus for your poems, and proofread meticulously—the journal's audience values precision. Response times vary, but patience is advised; do not query before the stated reading period has ended.
Thoroughly read our submission guidelines. There aren’t very many! We read anonymously, so files with the submitter’s name in the title will likely be declined.
