Submitting your work
Salt Hill accepts submissions via Submittable during designated reading periods, typically in the fall and spring. Simultaneous submissions are permitted with immediate notification of acceptance elsewhere. Writers should submit polished work that demonstrates a strong command of language and a clear sense of purpose; the editors favor pieces that feel necessary rather than merely competent. Include a brief cover letter with publication credits, if any, but avoid excessive bio padding. Response times vary from one to four months, so patience is advised. Familiarize yourself with recent issues before submitting to ensure alignment with the journal's aesthetic.
Please read an issue of Salt Hill before submitting—we’re pretty eclectic, but it’s good to get a feel for a magazine before submitting. Please take note of the following changes to our submission period (also found on our Submittable and website). We accept nonfiction and art submissions year-round.
