About the magazine

Sixth Finch is an online journal of poetry and art founded in 2008 by Brian Foley and Adrienne Raphel. From its inception, the journal has sought to create a space where the visual and the textual converse without hierarchy, publishing work that is at once spare, lyrical, and formally alert. Its founding ethos is one of curation as composition: each issue is designed as a cohesive aesthetic object, with poems and images placed in deliberate counterpoint. The journal appears in seasonal installments and has maintained a consistent vision for over a decade, earning a reputation for elegance and editorial discernment.

Sixth Finch accepts submissions of poetry and visual art on a rolling basis, but reading periods are announced via the website and social media. Poets should send 3-5 poems, understanding that the journal favors concise, image-rich work that rewards rereading. Artists should submit a cohesive series of images, as the journal often features visual art in dialogue with the written pieces. Simultaneous submissions are permitted, but please notify promptly if work is accepted elsewhere. Response times vary, so patience is advised. Above all, familiarize yourself with past issues to grasp the journal's aesthetic before submitting.
