About the magazine

Slipstream Press is an independent poetry publisher and biannual journal based in Buffalo, New York, founded in 1980 by a collective of poets seeking an alternative to the academy and commercial publishing. From its inception, Slipstream has championed accessible, image-driven poetry that values clarity, emotional precision, and the overlooked details of daily life. The press publishes two issues of its journal each year, alongside chapbooks and full-length collections, maintaining a commitment to work that is both formally attentive and unpretentious. Its longstanding ethos is one of literary citizenship: fostering a community of readers and writers who believe poetry should be approachable without sacrificing depth.

Editorial focus

Founded in 1980, Slipstream features the work of both new and established writers. Charles Bukowski, Gerald Locklin, Wanda Coleman, Lyn Lifshin, David Chorlton, Jim Daniels, Robert Penick, Sean Thomas Dougherty, and Sherman Alexie are among the many writers whose work has appeared in the pages of Slipstream .
