About the magazine

Trash Cat Lit is an online literary initiative dedicated to prose poetry, a form that thrives in the liminal space between narrative and lyric. Founded as a digital-first platform, it operates without a physical location, allowing it to remain agile and responsive to contemporary poetic practice. Its core mission is to champion the prose poem's unique capacity for compression, associative leaps, and unadorned emotional resonance, often favoring work that is raw, strange, or formally restless over the merely polished.

Submitting your work

Reading periodVaries

Before submitting, read several pieces from the journal's archive to internalize its aesthetic: it favors prose poems that are compact, image-driven, and unafraid of oddity or emotional bluntness. Avoid submitting traditional short stories, straightforward vignettes, or heavily rhymed verse. Since the journal is online and remote, follow its submission windows closely and adhere strictly to prose poetry formatting—typically a single block of text, though line breaks within prose are sometimes accepted. Cover letters should be brief; the work must speak first. Simultaneous submissions are generally acceptable if noted, but withdraw immediately upon acceptance elsewhere.
