About the magazine

MORIA is an online platform and curatorial project dedicated to contemporary art and writing. Founded with the aim of fostering a reflective and interdisciplinary space, it publishes artist projects, critical essays, and literary works that engage with the complexities of the present. Its mission is to provide a thoughtful counterpoint to the accelerated rhythms of digital culture, prioritizing depth, nuance, and sustained attention over novelty. By presenting curated online exhibitions and commissioned texts, MORIA cultivates a community of artists and writers who value process, materiality, and critical inquiry.

Editorial focus

MORIA is a national online literary magazine with an all-student editorial board, based at Woodbury University in greater Los Angeles. It accepts poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction from emerging and established writers in the United States and across the world. It publishes twice a year, in the late fall and late spring.

Artists and writers are encouraged to review past issues to understand MORIA's curatorial and editorial focus. Submissions should demonstrate a clear engagement with contemporary discourse and a thoughtful approach to the chosen medium. Proposals for online exhibitions should include a cohesive body of work and a curatorial statement. Written submissions should be polished and original. MORIA values work that is patient, critical, and open-ended, and discourages overly commercial or trend-driven proposals. Response times may vary, and simultaneous submissions are acceptable with notification.

While we accept all styles—including experimental, hybrid, and conventional forms—we aren’t interested in genre fiction (romance, fantasy, detective/crime, horror, sci fi, etc.). We’re committed to publishing a diverse range of poets and writers. We’ve also published pieces from writers in their teens to writers in their nineties—and every decade in between. We welcome work from traditionally underrepresented groups, including women writers, indigenous writers, writers of color, writers who identify as LGBTQIA+, and writers with disabilities. Please note that our e-mail address is not an acceptable way to submit work to us.
