Editorial focus
Columbia Journal publishes in print and online, seeking to showcase the best poetry, nonfiction, fiction, translation, and visual art on both platforms. The print edition, published each spring, is a combination of solicited work and the best of the submissions they receive—including the winners of the annual winter contest. Online, readers will find reviews and interviews with writers and artists, as well as the same caliber of original, vibrantly creative work that the print edition is known for.
Submitting your work
Writers should submit polished work that demonstrates a strong command of craft and a unique voice. The journal values literary merit over trendiness, so avoid overly gimmicky pieces. Familiarize yourself with recent issues to understand the editorial range, which spans traditional and experimental forms. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. Response times vary, so patience is advised. Include a brief cover letter with your publication history, if any, but let the work speak for itself.
Please check the website’s submission guidelines for the most up-to-date information.
