Editorial focus
Scrawl Place is a literary journal disguised as a visitor’s guide. The audience for this online publication is the guest, the visitor, the traveler, the day-tripper, the out-of-towner, and the in-towners eager to wander. Scrawl Place seeks submissions about “places in the places” where you live or where you’ve visited. The journal’s aspiration is that readers will visit the places you write about and be inspired to write about those places themselves.
Submitting your work
Scrawl Place accepts submissions year-round via its website, with no reading fees. The editors seek poetry (up to 3 poems), fiction, and nonfiction (up to 3,000 words) that engages with place in a fresh and meaningful way. They appreciate work that avoids clichés and sentimentality, favoring precise imagery and authentic voice. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please notify immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. Response times typically range from 2-4 weeks. Before submitting, read at least one recent issue to understand the journal's aesthetic and thematic interests. Include a brief cover letter with your submission, and ensure your contact information is accurate.
