Founded in 1989, the Atelier Calder residency program offers artists the opportunity to pursue projects and create new work in the exceptional environment of Alexander Calder’s studio and home in Saché, France, designed by the artist himself. The works produced during the residency are presented to the public at the end of the session during an open studio event. The residency can also serve as an opportunity for the artist to realize works that will be exhibited in a public institution following the residency, in collaboration with the Atelier Calder. The Atelier Calder is supported by the Ministry of Culture’s Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC Centre Val de Loire), the Centre Val de Loire Region, and the Calder Foundation. The Atelier Calder offers three residencies per year for a period of three months each to support artists working in the visual arts (installation, sculpture, etc.). This call for applications is open to artists with an established professional background of all nationalities and ages. The artists must be free from any other professional obligations (teaching, etc.) during their residency and commit to being present in Saché. The Atelier Calder team of two, a Studio Manager and a Coordinator, provides support to the artist in technical, logistical, and administrative capacities. They are also available to facilitate access to material and cultural resources. All efforts will be made to accommodate specialized production needs off-site. An agreement is signed between the Atelier Calder and the artist to define these mutual commitments.

ATLAS is an itinerant arts organisation that celebrates and explores the specificity of place within a local, national and international context. An organisation ‘without walls’, we create support structures with artists and communities through process-based commissions, social and political actions, exhibitions, exchanges, residencies, workshops, educational programmes and projects that strongly connect to local knowledge. ATLAS works across Skye and Lochalsh in different spaces and venues, working in collaboration with community organisations, local activists, schools, growers, artists, makers and other groups. ATLAS often focuses on projects that address climate injustice in relation to local history, culture and knowledge, and on art projects that span long periods of time – connecting the conditions and desires of the local area with the shared concerns of global communities. Resources and media such as libraries, independent publishing, film, performance, archives and food constitute the thematic framwork of ATLAS. In recent years their programme has involved community filmmaking, Gaelic learning collaborations, walks, screenings, meals, local apprenticeship programmes, environmental research projects, exhibitions and zine libraries – working with national and international artists and local groups alike. ⚠️ATLAS Arts’ office in Portree is currently closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The staff works remotely and their projects are continuing in different ways.

Atlas initiatief is a very small and a private organisation based on a former Polish fishing vessel. The initiators of Atlas initiatief are Stijn de Geus (1984), yacht builder and Laura Schippers (1985), visual artist. They are in the same time the owners and the crew of ship Atlas. The name Atlas is derived from the book containing abstract charts and data about the Earth. With the Atlas initiatief the organisers aim to "open up" these charts. Experience an untamed world in all its extensiveness. Ship Atlas was an abandoned former fishing vessel (HEL-141) build in 1974, Poland. Within eight years the residency organisers restored the ship in Breda, the Netherlands. During this period small art events took place aboard. From 2023 they start living aboard with their family of three. Now they’re travelling the world in a slow pace and the Atlas Residency took shape. During their travels, they create ample space for encounters with others and let their journey shape by what they encounter along the way. The artistic projects aboard helps them connect with others in a purposeful and meaningful way. Artists from all disciplines who can use ship Atlas for their artistic practice are welcome to come aboard in the area where the Atlas is sailing at that moment. You can sail with them, in the direction they’re going or they can adapt their sailing route to your project needs. If theu have to deviate far from their route, you will be asked to share in diesel costs. Mostly the organisers get deeply involved in the projects taking place aboard. They can support you with technical difficulties, artistic feedback and navigational-landscape advice. A residency at sea is intense: everyone depends on each other and are subject to the elements. But because of that, the passengers become closely involved in each other's worlds. The exchange of these worlds, perspectives and the experience of a sea voyage contributes to the development of your artistic practice. Ones or twice a year Atlas initiatief presents their sailing route of the next few months to a half year. Artists can apply for an Atlas Residency by sending their plan. If the plan is feasible and can be achieved safely you are welcome to come aboard. The residency has no substantive criteria for the projects and artistic research. For Atlas initiatief it’s even better to have a great variety of artists aboard. Because its focus on the exchange of perspectives and the ways of interacting with the sea, coastal areas and each other.

From article in Dawn : " Avant Garde & Kitsch (with the acronym A & K), was launched with an exhibition titled “The Hatchery” (2015), a name inspired by the idea of serving as “a springboard for emerging Pakistani artists”, in addition to providing selected young artists the opportunity to work together and also interact with established art practitioners and academics. This concept of a ‘residency’, whereby artists are provided with a space to live in and work with other artists, is the main thrust of A&K and is likely to continue in the future as well. " The aim of Avant-Garde & Kitsch is To promote emerging artists and those within 10 years of practice. The residency programme the Hatchery, as the name suggests, is meant to be a platform to project emerging and young artists onto the mainstream arts scene. The Residency provides residence and food at an urban location away from the distractions of big cities. General ameneties are provided.
Navalha Cultural Association is consistently developing projects in the fields of participatory arts, cultural programming, community development, conservation of heritage and international cooperation. Focused on the conservation and promotion of the cultural legacy of the multifaceted artist Vasco Branco (1919-2014), Navalha is the association responsible for the development of the cultural aspects of the VIC // Aveiro Arts House project. Sustained Action Their crew of artists, thinkers and technicians have developed a sustained cultural action in the territory for a few years now, collaborating in content production and programming for several of Aveiro’s most relevant artistic initiatives, such as the International Biennial of Artistic Ceramics, the Festival dos Canais, Criatech and Prisma festivals or the book celebration event Festa do Livro. Strongly involved in Aveiro’s application process for European Capital of Culture in 2027, our association has recently been awarded grants by Direcção Geral das Artes, Direcção Regional de Cultura do Centro and Garantir Cultura. Decentralisation of Culture Assuming that art —in all its unlikely forms— can and should play a fundamental role in society and in everyday life, we strongly believe in the accessibility and decentralisation of culture. Besides curating cultural programming away from the lobbies of Portugal’s main urban centres, Navalha is deeply interested in the development of participatory arts initiatives in rural and peripheral areas. Such was the case with Re_Emergir, a community-driven project we’ve produced in collaboration with the Spanish association Ecoopera at the former mining village of Borralha, Montalegre. Digging Tunnels At a time when networks seem to be one of the main convergence points of the dominant speech, they choose to dig cultural tunnels instead, substituting the ubiquitous shallowness of networking for the generation and preservation of deeper relations amongst projects, spaces, individuals and institutions. With a strong focus on the promotion of mobility in the arts, Navalha’s activities have granted them the participation in national and international cooperation programs, such as the Creatour creative tourism research project, the European mobility programs Tandem Europe and iPortunus Houses, the Challenges for Cultural Heritage Management in Tourism international conference or the European platform Culture Action Europe, dedicated to the analysis, reflection and development of sustainable cultural policies for Europe. The Future of Tradition They believe in the employment of state-of-the-art tools and experimental approaches towards the preservation and promotion of our traditions. Together with the artist’s family, Navalha is fundamentally engaged in the promotion of Vasco Branco’s artistic legacy. During the past few years we’ve developed and collaborated in multiple actions within this field, such as the rehabilitation and digitalisation of Vasco Branco’s movies, the publishing of a bilingual book about the artist’s deep connection to the city of Aveiro or, most recently, the celebrations of his centenary: a transdisciplinary event that included exhibitions, installations, round tables, guided tours, outdoors screenings and shared readings. Arts for Freedom and Participation Declaring the democratisation of art as one of our main goals, they believe in the development of a civil society where every citizen plays a shared and active role towards a sociopolitical context based on participation, and on freedom of artistic expression and speech, which they consider to be fundamental human rights. Partners Seeking to develop collaborative mechanisms between cultural agents, institutions and other creative projects in the region, Navalha has worked in partnership with a series of entities, from which we highlight Câmara Municipal de Aveiro, the Culture Action Europe platform, the Modern Art Museum of Medellín, the Ecomuseu do Barroso, MitOst e.V., the Portuguese Short Film Agency, INET-md (Ethnomusicology Institute from the Aveiro University), Porto Editora, Agrupamento de Escolas José Estêvão, GrETUA, Cinemateca Portuguesa, Porto Cineclub, Grémio Caldense, Ao Cabo Teatro, Sonoscopia, Gerador, Viral Agenda, MUSA - Music School or the 4IS association.

It focusses on the different roles of people in society and how they affect each other. Occupy Baltan Social Design Residency 2021 Baltan Laboratories and the Occupants program offer a 4-month residency on sensible social design projects with Eindhoven’s local communities. They are looking for projects that focus on a collaboration with the local community in Eindhoven. Applications should focus on specific needs, or urgent topics for the local community. Social Design practices often involve a mix of different professions, interests, and backgrounds. Creatives enter unknown contexts where they meet and get to interact with communities, that all have their own cultural background and personal story. This means besides working in the field they will keep testing out the sensibility of the process and collect the results to contribute for possible application in the social design sector. You are invited to occupy and use Baltan as an instrument for change on a personal and societal level. Occupying also means being immersed in one’s work or a topic that occupies not only our minds but even our lifestyle. We are constantly the occupier and the occupied, consciously and unconsciously.
