In the fall of 2018, the Darling Foundry launches Open Access, its new international residency program, developed in response to the growing demand for artistic mobility, while also offering its spaces and residential services to an ever-increasing number of visual artists and curators. A call for applications is open at all times to artists and curators of all nationalities, to offer tailor-made residencies in an inspiring professional context, housed in a 19th century industrial complex. All artists and curators, regardless of nationality and including Canadians, may apply to the Open Access program. Candidates are invited to apply at all times and in return the Darling Foundry commits to provide an answer within two months of receiving the application. Applications will be reviewed by an artistic committee, according to criteria of artistic quality, and relevance of the residency at the proposed time. N.B.: the Open Access residency is to be distinguished from the short-term rental of a studio, as it offers its laureates all the benefits of its other international residency programs, particularly in terms of artistic support, networking and promotion.

The centerpiece of the Davidoff Art Initiative is the Davidoff Art Residency. In offering emerging and mid-career artists an opportunity to spend an extended period of time working in a different social and creative environment from their own, the Davidoff Art Residency serves as a conduit for professional mobility, cultural immersion, and creative exchange. Davidoff Art Residency positions in international residency programs worldwide are offered to emerging and mid-career contemporary visual artists from the Caribbean, with an emphasis on artists from the Dominican Republic. Some residency program partners may accept applications from art writers and curators. The Davidoff Art Residency is for individuals who are pursuing visual arts as their primary professional activity. Candidate artists for the residency may work in any field of art, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, film, video, digital art, and performance, or a combination of media. Each year, when fully operational, the Davidoff Art Residency will offer residency positions for approximately five Dominican and Caribbean artists who will participate in selected artist-residency programs worldwide, and for approximately five artists from outside the Caribbean region who will spend ten weeks in the Dominican Republic. To date, Davidoff has announced three international partner residency hosts for Caribbean and Dominican Artists: the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) , New York (USA) Künstlerhaus Bethanien , Berlin (Germany) Red Gate Gallery Residency , Beijing (China) More information about the operational details of the Davidoff Art Residency in the Dominican Republic, which will host artists based outside the Caribbean, will be announced soon.
