The goal is to support individuals who pursue excellence and are willing to live and interact with other program participants with different or similar backgrounds to themselves. Through their residencies, they are building a network of individuals who know the importance of humankind’s relationship to the natural world. The flagship programme is a 2- or 5-week Interdisciplinary Residenc y. However, they also offer a Botanical Artist in Residence Program ; and an Alumni Residency . The goal of the interdisciplinary residency program is to provide individuals with the time and space to pursue their own creative projects alongside other Residents who may be examining plants, landscapes, gardens, and the natural world from different perspectives. Artists, conservation practitioners, researchers, scholars, scientists, and/or writers are encouraged to apply to the Interdisciplinary Residency Program. This is their flagship Residency program that was started in 2021. Now, in 2023, they have hosted over 50 Interdisciplinary Residents, and they plan to award 40 Interdisciplinary Residencies annually. They hope the Residents will develop meaningful relationships around shared creative interests, and find abundant inspiration while at OSGF. Interdisciplinarity is a key value of OSGF, and this Residency provides ample opportunities for Residents to explore our various resources. Beyond the time devoted to their projects, an Interdisciplinary Resident’s typical day at Oak Spring might include a walk to enjoy the landscape or birds; an appointment to visit the Oak Spring Library; and/or a morning spent volunteering at the BCCF or in the formal garden. These optional activities provide Residents time to learn from and interact with staff. The residents of the Botanical Artist programme will attend introductory tours during their first week on-site with other botanical artists, and Interdisciplinary Residents. This will include tours of the formal garden, landscape, and library. After this introduction, they are free to work independently on their projects, explore the 700-acre sustainably managed landscape, and make appointments to visit the library during office hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm). Botanical artists will also be asked to attend about 3-weekly meals with the 2-week Interdisciplinary Residents, who will also be on-site. The meals are a good opportunity to socialize and learn about what other residents are working on.

Intercultural ODYSSEYS Costa Rica is a civic, social and non-governmental organization (NGO) founded by Royce Clay Slape Seiger, himself a lifelong artist, in the belief that creating and sharing art across borders is a powerful tool for opening up human hearts and challenging the barriers that separate them. They have proudly hosted artists from as far abroad as Newfoundland, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Germany, Portugal, Argentina, Mexico, U.S.A. and England (including from the remote island of Guernsey, of the English Channel islands) - and growing. Though Spanish is the local language, English is spoken widely, and they've hosted artists who spoke neither. Those are the kinds of challenges the organizers love. So if you can imagine your project and have the professional skills to make it happen during your residency, they do everything possible to provide you with the uninterrupted time, space and inspiration you need.
Off Tropics is a self-directed residency in Chiang Mai, Thailand, designed for artists, curators, producers, cultural organisers, writers, researchers, composers, filmmakers, and cultural practitioners seeking time, focus, and space for sustained work. Situated in a quiet residential area surrounded by greenery, the residency combines accommodation with a private studio environment suitable for writing, composition, research, editing, sound work, and small-scale artistic development. Founded by artists working internationally across sound, performance, and moving image, Off Tropics emerged from a desire to create the kind of place often missing between commercial accommodation and institutional residencies: an affordable environment where concentrated work, rest, and reflection can coexist. The residency is intentionally flexible. Residents may use the space for artistic research, project development, writing, remote work, or simply as a temporary base from which to engage with Chiang Mai's cultural landscape. Depending on availability, informal studio visits, artist conversations, introductions to local practitioners, and additional artistic or technical support may be arranged separately. Off Tropics prioritises autonomy, long-form thinking, and the conditions necessary for meaningful creative work.

Oharano Studio is an artist-run studio and residency space located in Oharano, a rural area in southwest Kyoto. The studio operates at the intersection of contemporary artistic practice, everyday rural life, and long-standing local traditions. Oharano Studio has hosted and supported a wide range of practices, including performance art, sound and music art, sculpture, and site-responsive work. Activities often extend beyond the studio itself, through collaborations with nearby Buddhist temples, local farmers, artists, and independent studios. These relationships are not symbolic partnerships, but part of daily life in the area, shaped by trust, repetition, and shared time rather than formal programming. This is not a cultural showcase or a guided experience of the city’s tourist routes. Instead, the residency offers artists a chance to encounter Japan through lived rhythms: farming schedules, temple calendars, seasonal labor, weather, silence, and conversation. Art here is not separated from life, but rather happens alongside it. For international artists, Oharano Studio provides access to a Japan that is rarely visible online, one where contemporary art coexists naturally with spiritual practices, agricultural work, and small-scale local economies. The countryside setting is not treated as an aesthetic backdrop, but as an active collaborator, sometimes generous, sometimes demanding, always present. Ohara no Studio welcomes artists who are curious about place-based practice, community exchange, and slower modes of working, and who value depth of experience over visibility. The studio is especially suited to artists who see research, listening, and presence as integral parts of their practice. The residency at Ohara no Studio is a self-directed, research- and production-oriented stay designed for artists who appreciate autonomy and simplicity. Residents are invited to develop their own practice while living close to the land and the local community. There are no predetermined production requirements, allowing artists to focus on research, experimentation, or slower forms of making. At the same time, Oharano Studio actively welcomes the possibility of public moments, such as exhibitions, performances, workshops, or informal gatherings, when these align with the artist’s interests, needs, or the natural outcomes of their research. Such events are developed collaboratively and in response to the context, rather than imposed as obligations. The residency is particularly suitable for artists interested in: - Rural, ecological, and place-based practices - Process-oriented research in sound, performance, sculpture, or material work - Working in dialogue with Buddhist spaces, agriculture, and seasonal rhythms - Slow modes of making that are grounded in listening, observation, and presence - Collaborative possibilities that emerge from everyday life rather than formal programming

OSSO Associação Cultural is a collective that includes artists and researchers from various disciplines (Music, Dance, Fine Arts, Literature, Performance and Cinema). Since 2012, OSSO has developed transdisciplinary projects in collaboration with other artists and collectives, supported by partnerships with public and private institutions. Its experimental projects seek to explore artistic practices in conjunction with critical, aesthetic and political thinking that addresses the specificity of the contexts and territories in which it operates. OSSO is currently developing a project of Artistic Residences in the village of São Gregório, in the municipality of Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. This program comprises a range of artistic projects, research and programming activities in conjunction with local, national and international partners. This project aims to be a meeting point between artists and the public, actively dialoguing with the community through workshops, film screenings, concerts, performances, exhibitions, readings and any form of reflexive dialogue that involves, besides a creative community, a critical community. OSSO and its collective reinforce the interest in welcoming artists, national or international, whose practices are articulated with the notion of territory. The concept of territory is multifaceted and ambiguous. It relates to notions such as space and place, identity and community, dominion and control. It may refer to areas of land, but also areas of knowledge, activity or experience. In addition, territories inform identities, conditioning or generating values between communities. They are in constant transformation, expansion and contraction, and thus generate new dimensions of convergence, conversion or conflict. Borders are places of tension and its movements are expressed by presenting the territory as a dynamic entity. Territories are also social constructs, products of agency that encompass physical, virtual, social, political, experiential and affective spaces.
